NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team hosted the Blazers of Elms College on Thursday afternoon, falling in non-conference action by a 54-48 score.
Things started off well enough for Norwich, as they closed the first half on an 8-3 run to take a 31-27 lead into the break. The Cadets continued to build their lead into the second half, getting up by as many as ten points halfway through the quarter.
The Blazers rallied, however, putting together a 12-1 run to take a slim lead with under five minutes to go. Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) hit a jumper with 26 seconds remaining to cut the Norwich deficit down to four, but the Cadets couldn't find the buckets they needed to catch the Blazers, who coasted to the 54-48 victory.
Christopher Bryant (Crestview, Fla.) led Norwich with 12 points and seven rebounds on the day, with Daniel Haimes (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) adding 12 points of his own on the day. Dan Bertrand (Saugus, Mass.) filled the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, and a steal, and Donovan Lewis Jr. (Savannah, Ga.) put up nine points and four rebounds.
Andre Peguero led Elms with 14 points, seven rebounds, and a pair of blocks and D.J. Edelen put up 13 points and six rebounds for the Blazers.
Norwich falls to 6-8 on the year with the loss. The Cadets will hit the road for their next game, traveling to Regis to take on the Pride in a GNAC showdown Saturday afternoon at 3:00 PM.
