NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's basketball team hosted the Pilgrims of New England College on Thursday night, falling in non-conference action by a 97-80 final.
New England College went off for a 13-2 run midway through the first half and coasted to a 53-31 lead at halftime. The Cadets came roaring back in the second half, however, as Jesse Davis (Woodinville, Wash.) led a comeback charge midway through the second half with 11 points and a pair of steals in a five minute stretch on his own to help cut the lead all the way back down to single digits. Although Norwich managed to outscore NEC 49-44 in the half, the first half made the deficit impossible to overcome and NEC pulled out the 97-80 victory.
Jesse Davis ended up with a career-high 29 points, 19 of which came in the second half, on 10-18 shooting from the field and 7-13 from three. Christopher Bryant (Crestview, Fla.) put up yet another double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Kyle Booth (Northfield, Vt.) filled the stat sheet with 12 points, eight rebounds, and six assists. As a team, Norwich had one of their best shooting nights of the year, putting up a 53.0/40.0/100 split as a team.
With the loss, Norwich falls to 6-10 on the season. They'll try to snap their losing skid on Saturday afternoon when they travel to take on the University of Saint Joseph at 1:00 PM.
