Men’s Hockey: Cotnoir named Player of the Year, five other Cadets honored with ECAC East season awards

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Junior forward Pier-Olivier Cotnoir was named the Player of the Year and head coach Mike McShane earned Coach of the Year honors for the Norwich men's ice hockey team as the ECAC East announce its season awards on Friday afternoon.

Cotnoir (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) tied for second in the league with 28 points during conference play to help the Cadets claim their unprecedented 14th straight ECAC East regular season title. He also tied for second in the league in goals (13) power play goals (seven) and was third in assists (15). He was especially dangerous on the power play though with a conference-leading 19 points coming on the man-advantage.

Cotnoir was joined on the ECAC East All-Conference First Team by classmate Kyle Thomas. The explosive junior forward from Waltham, Mass. scored nine goals and added 14 assists for 23 points in league play. Overall, he has 14 goals and 17 assists for 31 points to rank third on the team.

Senior defenseman and team captain Shawn Baker (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) was named to the ECAC East All-Conference Second Team. Baker tallied four assists in 13 league games and has been one of the league's top shutdown defenseman for the majority of his career.

Norwich (20-2-2, 15-2-1 ECAC East) landed two players on the All-Rookie team with Doug Lindensmith (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Alec Thieda (Rochester Hills, Mich.).

Lindensmith led all conference rookies in points-per-game (1.08) and still tied for second in goals scored with eight despite missing five games. He finished the season with eight goals and six assists for 14 points in league play. Overall, he has amassed 12 goals and eight assists for 20 points.

Thieda led all conference rookie blue liners with five goals and five assists for 10 points even after missing two games. Overall, he has five goals and eight assists for 13 points this year.

McShane's Coach of the Year honor now makes him an eight-time winner of the top coach in the ECAC East. He won his 600th career game on Jan. 27 with a 5-1 win over Southern Maine. He is now 361-98-26 in his impressive 17-year career at Norwich.
