NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East announced on Monday night that freshman forward Doug Lindensmith of the Norwich University men's ice hockey team was named Rookie of the Week for the week ending Jan. 8.
Lindensmith (Sterling Heights, Mich.) tallied a goal and two assists in Friday's 4-2 win over SUNY Morrisville in the first round of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament. His efforts helped lead Norwich to a win its own tournament for the first time in three years and he was also named to the All-Tournament team.
On the year, Lindensmith has seven goals and four assists for 11 points which ranks fourth on the team. His seven goals tie him for second on the team as well.
Lindensmith's Rookie of the Week honor marks the sixth award the NU men's ice hockey team has earned this season from the ECAC's weekly awards.
Nationally No. 1-ranked Norwich (10-0-1, 6-0-0 ECAC East) returns to action this weekend when they travel to Boston to take on Babson at Fenway Park on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and then follows up with UMass-Boston on Saturday at 3 p.m.
