SAUGUS, Mass. – The Norwich men's and women's ice hockey teams added a few more postseason honors on Tuesday, April 10 at the 2012 New England Hockey Writers Association banquet held at Prince's Restaurant.
Senior forward Julie Fortier (Saint-Malachie, Quebec) of the women's team topped the list of honorees as she was named the New England Division II-III Player of the Year. A NU women's ice hockey player has now won the NEHWA Division II-III Player of the Year award back-to-back seasons after Sophie Leclerc earned the honor in 2011.
Fortier was also named a Division II-III All-Star and she was joined by three teammates in senior defensemen Amanda Wilks (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Sarianne Lynn (Wethersfield, Conn.), as well as junior forward Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.).
All four were named CCM Old Time Hockey All-Americans this year as well, which tied the 2006 Middlebury squad for the most American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American selections in one season.
On the men's side, junior forwards Pier-Olivier Cotnoir (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) and Kyle Thomas (Waltham, Mass.) each were selected as Division II-III All-Stars after both were named to the ECAC East All-Conference First Team, as well as CCM Old Time Hockey All-American squads.
The Norwich women have now had 10 total Division II-III All-Star selections in the three years the NEHWA has selected them, while the Cadet men have had nine selections.
