SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Norwich University men's ice hockey team picked up its second shutout in its last three games with a 4-0 victory over Skidmore College on Friday night.
The Cadets (3-1-0, 3-0-0 NEHC) avenged the site of their only loss in the 2016-17 national championship season with an impressive 4-0 shutout victory over Skidmore College.
Senior forward Kevin Salvucci (Plymouth, Mass.) scored two goals and an assist, while sophomore forward Todd Jackson (Holly Springs, N.C.) tallied three assists to lead the Cadets' offense on the day. Freshman Coby Downs (Montclair, Calif.) scored a goal and notched two assists as their line dominated the game, accounting for three of the four goals in the game.
Senior goalie Braeden Ostepchuk (Lethbridge, Alberta) made 24 saves to pick up his second shutout of the season and 11th of his career.
After another scoreless first period, Norwich continued its trend of gaining momentum as the game went on with three second period goals coming from the Salvucci/Jackson/Downs line.
Salvucci opened the scoring at the 1:17 mark of the second period with Salvucci scoring on a tap in goal backdoor after a one-time pass from Jackson and Downs.
Downs scored his third goal of the season with Jackson notching the primary assist and Salvucci tallying the second assist at the 8:48 mark of the second period.
Salvucci scored his second of the night at the 13:17 mark of the period off an assist from Downs on a rebound goal.
Norwich outshot Skidmore 45-24 for the game and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Cadets will look to keep their perfect league record in tact when they travel to Geneva, N.Y. to take on Hobart College for the first time in league play on Saturday at 4 p.m.
