MARSHFIELD, Mass. – For the third time this season freshman forward Coby Downs of the Norwich University men's ice hockey team was named the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Rookie of the Week.
Downs scored a goal and had two assists for three points in a 4-1 win over Castleton University on Friday night to help the Cadets sweep the season series.
Downs took over the team scoring lead with the three-point night and now has a team-leading five goals and six assists for 11 points this season.
Norwich (7-3-1, 6-1-1 NEHC) leads the conference standings with 13 points so far this season and remained at No. 12 in the latest USCHO.com and d3hockey.com national rankings released on Monday as well.
The Cadets are now off until Jan. 5 when they host the annual Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament at Kreitzberg Arena. Norwich will host Northland at 7 p.m. in the second game after University of New England and SUNY Geneseo play at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5. The winners will meet in the championship at 7 p.m. on Saturday with the consolation scheduled for 4 p.m.
