MARSHFIELD, Mass. –  For the second straight year and the record 11th time in his career, Norwich University head men's ice hockey coach Mike McShane was named the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Coach of the Year on Thursday afternoon.

McShane's Coach of the Year honor, along with senior goalie Braeden Ostepchuk (Lethbridge, Alberta) being named the NEHC Goaltender of the Year headlined Norwich's five honorees as the Cadets won their 19th regular season title in the last 20 years.

Senior forward Kevin Salvucci (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior co-captain defenseman Alec Brandrup (Rochester, Minn.) joined Ostepchuk on the NEHC All-Conference First Team.

Freshman forward Coby Downs (Montclair, Calif.) earned NEHC Third Team All-Conference and All-Rookie Team honors to round out the Cadets' winners.

McShane guided Norwich to its 19th regular season title in the last 20 years as the Cadets piled up a 17-6-2 overall record and a 13-3-2 mark in league play this season. He sits just five wins short of 450 in his Norwich career and tying the legendary Bob Peters for sixth all-time in NCAA men's college hockey coaching victories at 744.

McShane has now earned 25 "Coach of the Year" awards in his career and will be entered into the pool to try and win his record sixth Edward Jeremiah Award for the national coach of the Year by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA).

Ostepchuk became the first NU goaltender to earn Goalie of the Year honors from the NEHC since Ryan Klingensmith '10 in the 2009-10 season.

Ostepchuk authored an 11-5-2 overall record this year, including a 9-2-2 record in conference play. He posted a 1.99 goals against average and a .924 save percentage in 19 games played. Ostepchuk ranks second all-time in NU men's hockey program history with 50 career wins. He has a 50-12-3 record in 70 career games played at Norwich.

Salvucci earned NEHC All-Conference recognition for the third straight year after tallying nine goals and eight assists for 17 points. He has scored 50 goals and dished out 45 assists for 95 points in 101 career games played.

He earned honorable mention recognition as a sophomore and was named to the third team last year as a junior after leading NU with 21 goals scored.

Brandrup becomes one of the few four-time NEHC All-Conference honorees in program history with his first team selection this year. He was named to the All-Rookie team as a freshman, second team as a sophomore and third team as a junior.

He scored four goals and notched 10 assists for 14 points in 24 games played this season. He has played in 106 career games, scoring 16 goals and tallying 42 assists for 58 points.

Downs rounded out Norwich's selections after being named to the NEHC Third Team and the All-Rookie Team. He led the Cadets with 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 22 games played. Downs earned three NEHC Rookie of the Week selections this season.

Norwich earned the No. 1 seed for the NEHC Tournament and will host Castleton University on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in Kreitzberg Arena.
