BOSTON - The Norwich University men's ice hockey team was victimized by three first-period power play goals from UMass Boston as the Beacons rolled to a 4-2 win over the Cadets at Edward T. Barry Rink in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC).
Sophomore Felix Brassard (St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Cadets' offense, but it wasn't enough to overcome UMass Boston's three power play goals in the first 10 minutes to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
UMass Boston (4-0-0, 3-0-0 NEHC) took advantage of Norwich being called for a bench minor protocol penalty to start the game with Daniel Nachbaur scoring off an assist from John Regnart. Chris Peters made it 2-0 at the 4:46 mark of the first period off an assist from Bryan Carter. Garrett Galagher scored the eventual game-winning goal off an assist from Jeffrey Skinner at the 8:39 mark to chase NU starting goalie Tom Aubrun (Chamonix, France).
Norwich (2-1-1, 2-1-0 NEHC) got on the board with Brassard's second of the year off an assist from Jordan Hall (Anchorage, Alaska) at the 2:55 mark of the second period.
UMass Boston regained the three-goal lead when Nick Albano scored at the 5:16 mark of the third period with an assist from Pat Harrington.
Aubrun made just two saves before being pulled for freshman Adam Mercer (Rehoboth, Mass.) to get his first collegiate action in. Mercer came on to make 20 saves in nearly 50 minutes of game action.
Bailey MacBurnie made 29 saves for UMass Boston to improve to 4-0-0.
Norwich will look to get back on track on Saturday when it travels to Babson College to complete the Boston weekend for a 4 p.m. faceoff.
