Men's Hockey: Babson rallies past Norwich, 5-3

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Norwich University men's hockey team squandered a 3-1 lead, allowing Babson to score four straight goals in a 5-3 loss on Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

The Cadets (2-2-1, 2-2-0 NEHC) built up a 3-1 lead behind goals from sophomores Ryan Boucher (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Felix Brassard (St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec), as well as junior Todd Jackson (Holly Springs, N.C.), but it wasn't enough as Babson came roaring back with three goals in the third period to steal away the two points and send the Cadets to their second straight defeat.

Boucher opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at the 8:58 mark with a goal off an assist from sophomore defenseman Connor Swystun ().

Babson (4-0-1, 4-0-0 NEHC) knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal by Matt Wiesner just 1:17 into the second period.

Norwich came roaring back though with Brassard sniping the top right corner of the net for his second goal of the season to make it 2-1 Cadets. Jackson increased the lead to 3-1 at the 5:04 mark as he threw the puck at the net from a tough angle and it found its way over the line for her second goal of the season.

It was all Babson from there though as Cam Schmitt scored with a little over six minutes left in the second period.

Babson tied the game just 2:34 into the third period when a costly NU defensive zone turnover resulted in Zach Richterman snapping a wrist shot over the blocker of NU starting goalie Tom Aubrun (Chamonix, France) to make it 3-3.

Babson added another goal at the 7:05 mark to take its first lead of the game and then they added the empty-net goal in the final 10 seconds to seal the 5-3 victory.

Aubrun made 16 saves for Norwich to fall to 2-2-1 on the year.

Norwich will travel to Granby, Quebec next Saturday to face a Quebec junior league all-star team at 3:30 p.m. in an exhibition. The Cadets return home to Kreitzberg Arena on Friday, Nov. 23 when it hosts No. 4-ranked Adrian College in the opening round of the 21st annual PrimeLink Great Northern ShootOut at 7 p.m. Middlebury will meet Plattsburgh in the early game at 4 p.m.
