RUTLAND, Vt. - The Norwich University men's ice hockey team emerged with a 6-5 victory over Castleton in the second leg of the home and home series in the Battle of Vermont rivalry on Saturday night at Spartan Arena.
Norwich (13-4-3, 9-4-1 NEHC) extended its unbeaten streak to eight straight games with the win after falling behind by scores of 3-1 and 4-3.
Sophomore Ryan Boucher (Fitchburg, Mass.) scored twice to lead the offense, while classmate Felix Brassard (St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) had a goal and two assists for three points. Freshman Sam DiBitetto (Hilton, N.Y.) continued his impressive weekend, notching three assists as well for the Cadets.
After Brassard gave Norwich a 1-0 lead just 2:47 into the first period, Castleton scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead.
Freshman defenseman Gabriel Chicoine (St. Dominique, Quebec) scored his third goal of the season on the power play with 14 seconds left in the period off assists from Brassard and Coby Downs (Montclair, Calif.) to bring it to a 3-2 deficit.
Scott Swanson (Wheaton, Ill.) tied the game at 3-3 early in the second period only to have Castleton score next to make it 4-3 Spartans.
Jack Griffin (Duxbury, Mass.) started a string of three straight goals for Norwich to tie the game and then Boucher scoring just 14 seconds later to give Norwich a 5-4 lead. Boucher scored again with just under four minutes remaining to make it 6-4 Cadets.
Castleton got one back just 17 seconds later, but that's as close as the Spartans would get.
