Men’s Hockey: Aubrun garners NEHC Goalie of the Year honors, three other Cadets earn postseason awards

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Junior goalie Tom Aubrun (Chamonix, France) of the Norwich University men's ice hockey team cleaned up on the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) postseason awards list on Thursday afternoon. 

Aubrun was named the co-Player of the Year and the Goalie of the Year, while also earning NEHC First Team All-Conference honors in a breakout third season for the Maroon & Gold. 

Sophomore Felix Brassard (St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec) was named to the NEHC All-Conference Second Team, while freshman defenseman Gabriel Chicoine (St. Dominque, Quebec) earned All-Rookie and Third Team honors. Freshman forward Brett Ouderkirk (Monkland, Ontario) was also named to the All-Rookie team to round out the Cadets' selections. 

Aubrun led the NEHC with a 1.71 goals against average in league games. He also posted a 11-3-1 record and a .928 save percentage in conference contests. Aubrun backstopped Norwich with five shutouts and is just one shy of tying the all-time single season record for shutouts of six in a season set by Ryan Klingensmith '10 in 2010. 

Overall, Aubrun is 15-3-3 with a 1.74 goals against average and a .926 save percentage. He was named the NEHC Goalie of the Week four times this season while helping Norwich earn the No. 2 seed for the NEHC Tournament. 

Aubrun makes it back-to-back years a Norwich goalie has been named the Goalie of the Year after Braeden Ostepchuk earned the honor in 2018. He is also the first Norwich player to earn NEHC Player of the Year awards since William Pelletier '17 in 2015. 

Brassard was named to the NEHC Second Team after leading Norwich with nine goals and 17 assists for 26 points overall. He also had six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in conference games to rank tied for sixth in the league. He was named the NEHC Player of the Week once during the season. 

Chicoine earned Rookie Team and Third Team honors with a terrific inaugural season in the Maroon and Gold. He led all Norwich blue liners with five goals and 14 assists for 19 points overall. He tallied four goals and seven assists for 11 points in league games. He also leads the team with +23 plus-minus rating. 

Ouderkirk leads the Cadets with 13 goals on the season to go along with 11 assists for 24 points. He was named the NEHC Player of the Week twice this season. In league games, he had nine goals and six assists for 15 points. He led the team with six power play goals on the season as well. 

Norwich earned the No. 2 seed for the NEHC Tournament and will host Suffolk on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Kreitzberg Arena in the quarterfinal round. The Cadets are riding a 14-game unbeaten streak and have not lost a game in 2019.
