NORTHFIELD, Vt.—Senior Ian Mendoza (Mount Airy, Md.) scored five goals to lead the Norwich University men's lacrosse team to an 11-7 win against the Mustangs of Mount Ida College in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament.
With the win, the Cadets improve to 8-9 on the season and advance to Friday's semifinal against top-seeded Emmanuel, while the Mustangs end their season at 9-8.

Mount Ida's Markevich and Norwich's Flaherty scored 1:51 apart in the first quarter to set the 1-1 tie through the first quarter. Norwich then rattled off five straight second quarter goals before Sullivan scored on an assist by Hardy with 2:28 left in the frame.
The teams traded goals for the remained of the game, with both teams scoring an even five tallies each in the second half.
Norwich goaltender Mark Paradiso (Westford, Mass.) totaled 13 saves in the win, while Mustangs' netminder Kyle Cordaro recorded nine saves in the complete-game effort. The Mustangs finished the game with a 36-34 shot advantage, but both teams finished with an even 20 shots-on-goal.
