Men's Lacrosse: Coast Guard races by Norwich, 17-1

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team hosted the Bears of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday afternoon, dropping the out of conference matchup by a 17-1 final score. 

The Bears came out of the gate swinging, as Matt Heumme found the back of the net barely over thirty seconds into regulation, the first of what would end up being 15 unanswered goals for the Coast Guard Academy throughout the game. Norwich finally broke through in the fourth quarter with a Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y) goal assisted by Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) to stave off the shutout. 

Most of the statistical categories were won by Coast Guard on the day, including; shots (61-21), clears (26-14), ground balls (24-11), and faceoff wins (13-9). A trio of goalies for Coast Guard combined to make 6 saves on the day, while Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) and Nick Kandra (Crofton, Md.) combined to make 10 saves for Norwich. 

With the loss, Norwich falls to 1-1 on the young season, while Coast Guard improves to 2-0. The Cadets are back on the field this Wednesday when they host the Pilgrims of New England College at 4:00 PM at Sabine Field.
