NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team stayed hot on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Mustangs of Mount Ida College for their fourth win in a row by a 7-5 final score.
A tight game at the half had Norwich up 4-2 at the break, as both defensive units suffocated their opposition all day long. The Cadets broke out in the third quarter, as they outscored the Mustangs 3-0 in the quarter to give themselves all the room they needed. Mount Ida made it interesting in the fourth quarter by scoring three unanswered goals, but the Norwich defense made enough plays down the stretch to seal up the 7-5 victory.
Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) led the Norwich offense with three goals on the day, while Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) and Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) each collected two goals apiece. Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) made 11 saves in goal to pick up the win. Norwich created 22 Mount Ida turnovers and outpaced the Mustangs in shots (51-27) and ground balls (25-11).
With just three games left in the regular season, Norwich sits at an 8-5 record overall and a 5-1 mark within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. They'll look to extend their four-game winning streak on Wednesday when they travel to take on Rivier at 7:00 PM.
