NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team finished up regular season play with their seventh straight victory on Wednesday evening, defeating the AMCATS of Anna Maria College by a 17-6 final score.
The game was all Norwich from the start, as Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) got the maroon and gold on the board early with an unassisted goal six minutes into the contest. Norwich piled it on from there and took a 12-4 lead into the halftime break.
Anna Maria's defensive unit stepped up in the second half, but Norwich still managed to outscore the AMCATS by a 5-2 margin to seal up the 17-6 victory.
Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) led the Norwich offensive attack with six points on the day via four goals and two assists. Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) picked up three goals of his own, and freshman Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) collected two goals and an assist. Freshman Kevin Horchak (Mullica Hill, N.J.) picked up his first collegiate goal and Nick Kandra (Crofton, Md.) got credit for his first ever collegiate win in goal after earning the start for today's contest.
With the win, Norwich has sealed up the first place spot in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings and will enter the playoffs as the #1 overall seed. Their first playoff game will be a quarterfinal matchup that will take place this Saturday, April 28th, at home. The opponent and start time will be officially announced tomorrow morning.
Norwich will finish with an 11-5 overall record and an 8-1 mark within the GNAC, as the Cadets haven't lost a game nearly a month. They'll look to ride the momentum of their seven-game winning streak into a deep playoff run.
