Men's Lacrosse: Norwich falls in conference battle to Lasell, 11-5

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team took on conference powerhouse Lasell College on Saturday afternoon, as the Lasers outplayed the Cadets on their way to an 11-5 victory.

A tight first period was capped by Andrew Fidalgo beating the buzzer by two seconds to net a goal and give Lasell a 3-1 lead. The Lasers came out with three unanswered goals in the second before Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) snuck in his own buzzer beater with six seconds left in the half to send the two teams into the break with a 6-2 Lasell lead.

The Cadets put together a big push in the third quarter, scoring three straight goals to capture the momentum for a moment and cut the Lasell lead to just two goals. The Lasers kept their composure, however, ending the game on a 4-0 run across the remaining 20:51 of game time to seal the 11-5 victory.

Nick Kandra (Crofton, Md.) played 60 extraordinary minutes in goal, making 27 saves on 38 shots to give the Cadets a chance in this one. 27 saves is the highest single-game mark in the last five seasons for a Norwich goaltender. Lasell outpaced the Cadets in shots 58-20, 38-12 on shots on goal.

It'll be the first conference loss for the Cadets in 2019, as they'll fall to 5-4 overall and 3-1 within the conference. Their next tilt will be Tuesday evening, when they host the Raiders of Rivier University.
