Men's Lacrosse: Cadets take pivotal conference battle over Monks, 12-8

STANDISH, Maine - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team defeated the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine on the road on Tuesday evening, clinching the second seed in the upcoming conference tournament with a 12-8 victory.

The Cadets struck first with a Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) goal off a Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) assist. A few minutes later, Campbell returned the favor by setting up a Cody Moore goal to make it 2-0 Norwich. Penalties got the Cadets in trouble from there, as the Monks responded with back-to-back man-up goals to even things up. Each team traded 2-0 runs to finish off the half, and entered the break knotted 4-4.

The maroon and gold came out on fire in the second half, with four unanswered goals to take an 8-4 lead. The two teams went back and forth with a 4-3 fourth quarter to wrap things up, as Norwich sealed up the 12-8 victory.

Norwich clinches the second overall seed with the victory, as the Monks will be the third seed in the upcoming Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tournament.

Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the way for Norwich with his best performance of the year, tying a career-high with five points via three goals and two assists. Parker Campbell put up his own career-high performance with six points via two goals and four assists, and Cody Moore had a hat trick with an assist as the senior scored in every single regular season game this season. Joseph Santangelo (Fallston, Md.) had another great day on faceoffs, going 16-22. In his last two regular season games, the senior went 41-47 on faceoffs, an 87.2% win rate. Nick Kandra (Crofton, Md.) went the distance in goal, picking up his fourth straight victory and fifth overall on the year with eight saves.

Norwich wraps up the season with a 10-4 overall record and a 7-1 record within the conference, winners in five straight and nine of their last 11 contests. The Cadets will now host the GNAC Quarterfinal game on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 PM. More information will follow in the coming days on
