HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Norwich University men's rugby team traveled to Colgate for a preseason scrimmage and downed the hosts by a 20-17 margin on Saturday, Aug. 26.
The Cadets played 34 student-athletes, giving veterans and newcomers alike the opportunity to compete against high-level competition. Four different players recorded tries for Norwich, who rebounded from an early 12-5 deficit through the first 20 minutes.
Junior Yao Dyson (Bristow, Va.) led off the scoring for Norwich, followed by back-to-back tries from senior Matthew Ulufanua (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) and junior Taualupe Tau (East Palo Alto, Calif.) in the 20-minute second stanza. Junior Frank Harnedy (Little Compton, R.I.) rounded out the scoring for Norwich with a third-quarter try, increasing the Norwich lead to 20-12.
Colgate added a try in the fourth quarter that was shortened to 10 minutes.
The Cadets welcome Bishop's University to Northfield for a 1 p.m. showdown with Bishop's University this Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Dog River Rugby Pitch.
