NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The #2-ranked Norwich University men's rugby team hosted Providence College in Rugby Northeast action on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Dog River Rugby Pitch.
Senior flyhalf Keegan Frick (Thornton, Pa.) and junior flanker Austin Manhey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) both scored three tries as the Cadets ran past the Friars 88-8, stretching their regular-season win streak to 15 matches.
Manhey scored the opening two tries of the match (both were converted by Frick) for an early 14-0 lead. Sophomore wing Brandon Johnson (Lauderhill, Fla.) added a try that was converted by Frick before Manhey collected his third try of the half for a 26-0 advantage.
Frick then scored his first try and converted it himself followed by a penalty kick for a 36-0 lead. Sophomore center Adam Schmitz (Cesterfield, Mo.) capped the first half scoring with a try (converted by Frick) for a 43-0 lead at the break.
Providence scored eight straight points to start the second half on a try and a penalty kick, but Norwich would storm back with 45 unanswered points. Senior No. 8 Blair Woodley (Westport, Conn.), senior center Jay Inzenga (Exeter, N.H.), Johnson, senior fullback Anthony Candrilli (Richmond, Va.), and junior wing Luke Jordan (Worcester, Mass.) all scored tries in the second half while Frick added two more for an 88-8 final score.
The Cadets improve to 7-0 overall and 6-0 in Rugby Northeast play while the Friars fall to 2-4 overall and in-conference.
Norwich is next in action on Saturday, October 28th for a huge Rugby Northeast matchup at second-place Middlebury College. That match is set for 1:00 p.m.
