NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's rugby team lost 29-17 to Brown University in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon on the Dog River Rugby Pitch.
Brown jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. Norwich answered with a try by Nathan Rolling (Taylorsville, Utah) to cut the deficit to 12-5. Brown ended up scoring two more tries before halftime to take a 24-5 lead into the half.
The Cadets came out hard in the second half with with two tries by Rolling and a conversion by Jeff Minnicucci to cut the deficit to 24-17. In the 75th minute, Brown scored again to take the 29-17. In the final minute, Norwich nearly scored to close the gap, but was held up at the goal.
"It was the tale of two halfs," NU head coach Bob Weggler said. "I was proud of the way our young team battled for 80-plus minutes."
Norwich will look to bounce back next Saturday when it hosts Bentley in its first league match of the season at 2 p.m. on the Dog River Pitch.
