Men's Rugby: Norwich trounces Providence 69-0 on Parent & Family Weekend

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's rugby team posted a resounding 69-0 victory over Providence on Saturday afternoon in Rugby Northeast action on the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch.

Junior Nathan Rolling (Taylorsville, Utah) tallied three tries to lead the Cadets' offense on the day as they piled up 11 tries en route to a dominant shutout victory over Providence. Junior Josh Johnson (Argyle, Texas) added two more tries as well for Norwich.

Travis Bartniski (Houston, Texas), Eoghan Savona (Kenilworth, N.J.), Josh Knoll (Braintree, Mass.), Paul Latona (Andover, Mass.), Mac Nagel (Lakewood, Ohio) and John Tellifson (Bow, N.H.) each tallied tries as well for the Cadets. 

Bartniski finally got the Cadets on the board in the 18th minute with an unconverted try to give NU a 5-0. Savona lengthened the lead to 10-0 with an unconverted try from Savona in the 21st minute.

Rolling scored his first try of the day in the 27th minute with a successful conversion from Jeffrey Minicucci (Bolton, Conn.) to push the lead to 17-0. Johnson scored his first try of the day with a Minicucci conversion to push the lead to 24-0. Latona ended the first half scoring with a converted try to make it 31-0 Cadets at halftime.

Rolling opened the second half scoring in the 49th minute with a Minicucci conversion to take a 38-0 lead. Tellifson scored his first collegiate try in the 56th minute to push the lead to 43-0. Rolling capped his hat trick with a converted try in the 60th minute to push the lead 50-0. Knoll had a converted try in the 67th minute to push the lead to 57-0. Johnson added his second try with a Minicucci conversion to make it 64-0.

Nagel capped the scoring in the 78th minute with his first collegiate try to cap the scoring with a 69-0 win.

In the B-side match, Providence took a 43-12 victory over the Cadets.

Norwich to 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in Rugby Northeast play. The Cadets travel to UMass Lowell next Saturday for a showdown with the Riverhawks.
