WINOOSKI, Vt. – The Norwich University men's rugby team scored early and often on its way to a dominating 85-5 victory over St. Michael's College on Saturday afternoon in Rugby Northeast Conference action.
The Cadets had 11 different try scorers, led by two tries each from Nathan Rolling (Taylorsville, Utah) and McKinley Nagel (Lakewood, Ohio).
Norwich (5-1, 5-0 Rugby Northeast) won its fifth straight match and stretched its league unbeaten streak to 20 straight games with the victory.
Sophomore William Rambin (Fairfax, Va.) touched down for a try in the 11th minute with another conversion by Minicucci to push the lead to 14-0. Rolling scored his first try of the game in the 17th minute with a successful conversion from Minicucci to stretch the advantage to 21-0.
Kyle Clark (Pataskala, Ohio) made it 26-0 in the 20th minute and then Rolling added his second try of the day in the 27th minute to make it 33-0 following another Minicucci conversion.
Michael Del Priore (Ringoes, N.J.) scored in the 30th minute, Austin Manhey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) scored in the 35th minute, Korbin Wayton (Highland Village, Texas) scored in the 37th minute and then Jonah Faneuf (Wake Forest, N.C.) scored in the 40th minute to give the Cadets a 59-0 lead at halftime.'
Joshua Johnson (Argyle, Texas) opened the second-half scoring with a converted try by Faneuf in the 47th minute to push the lead to 66-0. Labombard added a try in the 55th minute, while Nagel scored two tries in a row in the 60th and 70th minute to give Norwich an 85-0 advanatge.
St. Michael's got on the board in the 76th minute with an unconverted try to break up the shutout.
Norwich closes out the regular season on Saturday, October 20 when it hosts Middlebury at 1 p.m. on the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch. The game will be live video streamed on www.nsnsports.net/colleges/norwich
