NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's rugby team downed Keene State 39-20 on Thursday night in 15s development action on Sabine Field.
Norwich received tries from seven different players as the Cadets built up a 29-8 lead by halftime and then cruised through the second half en route to the win.
Sam Smith opened the scoring and then Mike McLaughlin and Anthony Romano touched down for tries as the Cadets sprinted out to a 15-0 lead before Keene State got on the board with its first try.
Travis Bartniski and Giovanni Allen-Masu added two more tries with successful conversions from McLaughlin to push the lead to 29-5 before a penalty kick from Keene State closed the first half scoring.
Keene State opened the second half with a converted try to make it 29-15. However, Sims Bostic and Paul Latona each scored tries to push the lead to 39-15. Keene State scored one more try before the final whistle to cap the scoring.
Norwich will host Bridgton Academy in another development side match on Wednesday, April 24 at 3 p.m. The Cadets host the sixth annual Chris Munn 7s Tournament on Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m.
