Men's Rugby: Cadets Shutout Panthers on Senior Day

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's rugby team hosted in-state rival Middlebury College in Rugby Northeast conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Dog River Rugby Pitch.

The Cadets shutout the Panthers 48-0 on Senior Day to win their 23rd consecutive league matchup (including playoffs).

Senior Joshua Johnson (Argyle, Texas) got the scoring started with a try 11 minutes into the match, Junior Jeffrey Minicucci (Bolton, Conn.) added the conversion for the 7-0 lead.

Freshman McKinley Nagel (Lakewood, Ohio) scored his first two tries on the day at the 19 minute mark (uncoverted) to give Norwich a 12-0 lead. Sophomore Jonah Faneuf (Wake Forest, N.C.) followed with a try seven minutes later (unconverted) to stretch the lead to 17-0.

Senior Korbin Wayton (Highland Village, Texas) capped the scoring in the first half with a try (unconverted) 36 mins into the frame.

In the second half, NU got tries from junior Nate Rolling (Taylorsville, Utah) sophomore Josh Knoll (Braintree, Mass.) Nagel and senior Austin Manhey (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) for the 48-0 final.

The NU B-side was also victorious on the day, capturing a 20-0 victory.

The Cadets are next in action at the Rugby Northeast playoffs on the weekend of November 2nd at host UMass-Lowell. Norwich will be the top seed after another undefeated league season.
