PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University men's rugby team kicked off the 2019 regular season with a tough matchup at Division I Brown University on Saturday afternoon.

Brown capitalized on a slow Norwich start and jumped put to a 23-0 lead in the first half en route to a 58-10 victory over the Cadets.

Norwich scored on the last play of the first half with a try by sophomore McKinley Nagel (Lakewood, Ohio). Jeff Minicucci (Bolton, Conn.) added a successful conversion to cut the deficit to 23-7 heading into the halftime break.

Minicucci nailed a penalty kick early in the second half to cut the deficit down to 23-10. However, that's as close as Norwich would get as Brown rattled off 35 straight points to end the half and take the 58-10 victory.

"We were challenged by an excellent Brown squad and we will learn from the video to better ourselves for next week's conference opener at Bentley," said NU head coach Bob Weggler.

Freshman Leo Clayburgh (Brussels, Belgium) was named the Man of the Match for Norwich.

Norwich will open the 2019 Rugby Northeast conference slate at Bentley next Saturday at 4 p.m.
