MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - The Norwich University men's rugby team picked up a critical 38-24 victory over Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon in Rugby Northeast action.
Norwich had five different try scorers and built up a 28-5 halftime lead en route to 38-24 victory over Middlebury.
Leo Clayburgh (Brussels, Belgium), Josh Knoll (Braintree, Mass.), McKinley Nagel (Lakewood, Ohio), Kyle Clark (Pataskala, Ohio) and Nate Rolling (Taylorsville, Utah) each scored tries, while Jeffrey Minicucci (Bolton, Conn.) was a perfect 5-for-5 on conversions and also hit a penalty kick to complete his perfect day kicking.
Clayburgh, Knoll, Nagel and Clark all scored in the first half to give Norwich a 28-0 lead before Middlebury scored on the last play of the first half to make it 28-5 at halftime.
Rolling opened the second-half scoring to make it 35-5 before the Panthers added a converted try to cut the deficit to 35-12. Minicucci hit a penalty kick to make it 38-12 and then Middlebury scored two tries in the last eight minutes of the match to cap the scoring at 38-24.
Norwich (3-2, 3-1 Rugby Northeast) returns home to the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch for a crucial showdown with first place UMass Lowell on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m.
