HANOVER, N.H. – The Norwich University men’s rugby squad traveled to take on Dartmouth College in a developmental side match on Friday afternoon.

The Big Green defeated the Cadets by a 36-27 final score.

Trailing 12-0 in the first half, NU got a try by sophomore hooker Cole Bobuc off a ruck and a second try by sophomore wing Brandon Hussey (Miami, Fla.) that was converted by junior fly half Dennis McMahon (Cornwall on Hudson, N.Y.) to tie things up at 12. Dartmouth connected on an unconverted try just before halftime to take a 17-12 lead.

The Big Green scored the first try of the second half as well, to take a 22-12 lead before freshman #8 Ahmad A Bitang (Vero Beach, Fla.) scored off a pick-and-go at a scrum to cut the lead to 22-17.

Dartmouth responded with two converted tries to take the 36-17. Norwich was not done scoring on the day, getting tries from sophomore scrum half Justin Nadeau (Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman prop Robert Turnipseed (Griffin,Ga.) to make it a 36-27 game, but that would cap the scoring on the day.

“It was a good afternoon of development side rugby from both sides.” Norwich Head Coach Bob Weggler said, “Lots to learn, but great enthusiasm and energy from both sides.”
