Men’s Soccer: Norwich slides past Plymouth State, 2-1

Colin Lozito action vs. Middlebury men's soccer

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Norwich University men's soccer team broke a streak of three straight ties with a 2-1 non-conference win over Plymouth State on Wednesday afternoon.

Seniors Camilo Estrada (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.) each scored goals to lead the Norwich offense on the day. Norwich improved to 4-3-4 overall on the season with the victory.

Estrada scored his third goal of the season just eight minutes into the action when he netted a through pass from Dashiell Vermilya (Montpelier, Vt.) to take the early 1-0 lead.

Plymouth State (2-8-0) bounced back and equalized the game six minutes after. On the first corner of the game, senior Nick Rutherford sent a ball in to the back of the six-yard box, where junior Truls Julseth slid a shot through traffic and into the back of the net to level the score.

Norwich regained the lead for good in the 54th minute when Lozito beat a pair of defenders streaking down the left side of the field, and slid it past a sliding Linus Lindeberg.

Shots were dead even at 11 apiece for each team. Junior goalkeeper Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) made two saves to pick up his fourth win of the season. Lindberg made four saves in the loss.

Norwich returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Regis at 6 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium in another GNAC contest.
