CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Norwich University men's soccer team battled Mount Ida to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Senior Jeff Purdy (Grantham, N.H.) scored his second goal of the season in the 26th minute off an assist from Staige Davis (Shelburne, Vt.) on a corner kick. Davis fed the ball to Purdy who tapped the ball in at the far post to give the Cadets a 1-0 lead.
Mount Ida (8-5-2, 5-3-1 GNAC) responded in the 37th minute with Jared Barroso scoring his first goal of the season on a header in the box off a cross from Brandon Dickenst to level the score at 1-1.
Neither side was able to score again in the game, Mount Ida outshot Norwich 32-14 in the game. Junior Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) made 12 saves in the tie.
Norwich (7-3-5, 5-0-4 GNAC) extended its unbeaten streak vs. GNAC opponents to 21 straight matches with the tie. The Cadets close the regular season with two home games vs. Albertus Magnus on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and then Monday vs. Johnson State at 7 p.m.
