WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman forward Bienfait Badibanga (Burlington, Vt.) of the Norwich University men's soccer team swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player and Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season on Monday afternoon.
Badibanga had a hand in all six goals that Norwich scored en route to a 2-0 week and extend its unbeaten streak to 10 straight to open the season.
He scored his second collegiate hat trick and had an assist for a seven-point game in a 4-0 win over Rivier on Wednesday.
Badibanga then scored both goals, including the game-winning goal in a big 2-0 victory over Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.) on Saturday on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Bienfait Badibanga leads Norwich with nine goals on the season and two assists for 20 points. His goals and point total both lead the GNAC.
Norwich (7-0-3, 4-0-1 GNAC) is on a 10-game unbeaten streak to open the 2018 season, which is its longest streak to start a year since 2008 when NU went 10-0-1 before losing.
The Cadets travel to Regis on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. matchup with the Pride, who sit in sixth place in the GNAC standings.
NU has had a player honored in all five weeks by the GNAC so far. Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) was the Week 1 Rookie of the Week, while Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) collected Week 2 Goalkeeper of the Week accolades. Badibanga won Player and Rookie in Week 3, while Nemeye repeated in Week 4 as the Rookie of the Week.
