Amerle Nemeye men's soccer action vs. Maine Maritime

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's soccer team snapped a three-game winless streak with a 2-0 win over Suffolk in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season finale on Saturday.

Norwich (10-2-4, 7-2-2 GNAC) clinched the No. 3 seed for the GNAC Tournament with the three points and will host a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday, October 27th at a time to be determined.

The Cadets got goals from freshmen Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) and Alex Brannan (Oneonta, N.Y.) en route to the victory. Senior goalkeeper Brendan Germano (Monroe Township, N.J.) stopped all four shots he faced to pick up his seventh shutout of the season.

Nemeye scored an unassisted tally in the 19th minute after his initial shot was blocked and then he immediately followed up with a laser into the back right corner of the net for his sixth goal of the season.

Brannan scored his first collegiate goal in the 60th minute, slicing a deflected ball into the bottom left corner of the net from 25 yards out to give the Cadets an insurance tally.

Tom Bennett made a save on a penalty kick from Nemeye in the second half to keep the score close.

Bennett made four saves before exiting for David Haines, who came on to make three saves.

Norwich was originally scheduled to play Plymouth State on Monday in a non-league game, but it has been cancelled. The Cadets will next be in action on Saturday when they host a GNAC quarterfinal following the home NU football game.
