Men’s Soccer: Gabrielsson, Wagenseller earn GNAC plaudits

GNAC WEEK 10 REPORT

WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshmen defender Elias Gabrielsson (Ostersund, Sweden) and goalkeeper Robert Wagenseller (Poway, Calif.) were named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Co-Rookie and Goalie of the Week respectively on Monday afternoon.

Gabrielsson scored his first collegiate goal with a header in the 75th minute to provide the game's only goal in a 1-0 victory over Colby-Sawyer in the GNAC quarterfinal round on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.

Wagenseller stopped all three shots he faced on the week between Wednesday's 2-0 win over Lasell and Saturday's win over Colby-Sawyer.

Wagenseller improved to 14-3-1 on the season and lowered his goals against average to 0.68 and raised his save percentage to .829 on the season while picking up his fourth and fifth shutout.

Wagenseller earned his third GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week award, while the rookie of the week nod was Gabrielsson's first of the year and second time a Norwich player won it after Joseph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.) won in Week 4.

Norwich (14-3-1) has already won the most games in a season since 2008 and advanced to its 16th straight GNAC semifinal appearance. The Cadets will travel to No. 2 seed and three-time defending GNAC champion Saint Joseph's (Maine) on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 4 p.m.
