NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Three members of the Norwich University men's soccer team will take part in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL) Senior All-Star Game on December 1 at 1:00 p.m. The game will take place at Gordon Field on the campus of Brandeis University.
Andrew Kalombo (Worcester, Mass.), Julio Arreola (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Josue Lopez (Chula Vista, Calif.) all made instant impacts for Norwich in their first year in the Maroon & Gold after transferring from Newbury College after it closed this past spring.
Kalombo played and started in 17 games as a first-year captain and center back. He scored four goals for eight points and was leaned on heavily to lead a young Cadets' defense. He earned GNAC Player of the Week honors in September and was named to the GNAC All-Conference First Team.
Arreola was one of just four players to play and start in all 19 games for Norwich this season en route to earning GNAC First Team All-Conference honors. He was a rock in the midfield, scoring two goals and adding one assist for five points, including scoring two game-winning goals in the Cadets' first two games of the season.
Lopez tied for third on the team in scoring, providing five goals and two assists for 12 points as an attacking midfielder in in his lone season with the Cadets. Lopez scored one game-winning goal on the year and was named to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team.
Dashiell Vermilya (Montpelier, Vt.) was also selected to play, but is unable to participate.
Norwich posted a 14-4-1 record and lost 3-2 to Saint Joseph's (Maine) in the GNAC Semifinals, which was the highest win total since 18 wins in 2008. Norwich reached the 10-win plateau for the 14th straight season and also advanced to the GNAC semifinal round for the 16th straight season, which are the longest streaks in the conference.
