CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Norwich University men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened their 2019 slate with a dual meet at Elms College on Saturday afternoon.
The Cadets swept the Blazers with a 202-54 win on the men's side and a 126-117 victory in women's action.
The team of freshman Olivia Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.), freshman Megan Duffy (Shelton, Conn.), senior Kylee Russell (Swanzey, N.H) and sophomore Hannah Hughes (Fort Belvoir, Va.) won the 200 meter medley relay in 2:19.30 with the team of junior Austen Greene (Herndon, Va.), senior Dylan Henderson (Commerce Township, Mich.) junior Alex DiGiacomo (Norfolk, Mass.) and junior Harrison Brock (Alexandria, Va.) won the men's event in 1:57.93.
Duffy also claimed first in the 800 meter freestyle in 10:08.58, the 100 meter backstroke in 1:22.79 and the 400 meter IM in 5:33.01. Sophomore Sam Carlson (Dedham, Maine) won the men's contest in 9:45.44. Carlson also took the 400 meter freestyle race in 4:38.97. Brock won the 100 meter freestyle, posting a time of 1:01.65.
Kelliher won the 50 meter backstroke in 34.24 with Greene winning the men's contest in 29.57. Greene also took the 50 meter freestyle in 26.48 and the 100 meter IM in 1:07.49.. Kelliher went on to win the 50 meter butterfly in 34.20. Henderson also claimed first in the 50 meter backstroke with a time of 33.95 and the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:16.05.
DiGiacomo won the 100 meter butterfly in 1:03.64 with Russell taking first in the same event in 30.97. DiGiacomo also won the 50 meter butterfly in 28.69.
Freshman Brian Parrott (Londonderry, N.H.) took first place in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:42.94 with senior Angela Liu (Yucaipa, Calif.) taking first in the 50 meter backstroke in 43.74.
Senior Naveed Johnson (Olympia, Wash.) won the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:12.58.
The team of Russell, Hughes, senior Alexis Spry (Corning, N.Y.) and Kelliher won the 200 meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:05.59. Henderson, junior Will Micali (Brentwood, N.H.), Parrott and Brock won the 200 meter freestyle relay.
The Cadets are next in action on Thursday, January 17th for a home dual meet against Saint Michael's College. The meet is set for 5:00 p.m.
