Swimming & Diving: Norwich Men Lead, Women Fourth After Day Two at GNAC's

BOSTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in day two of the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by Simmons College, on Saturday.

Through 24 events the Cadet men hold first place out of seven teams with 180 team points while the NU women are fourth out of eight teams with 219 points.

Freshman Megan Duffy (Shelton, Conn.) placed fourth in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:30.17, while sophomore Joseph Clark (Acworth, Ga.) placed third in the men's event, posting a time of 5:05.70. Clark went on to win the 200 yard backstroke event in 2:03.95 to claim All-Conference honors in the event.

Duffy also claimed second in the 200 yard IM in 2:17.58 and fifth in the 50 yard breaststroke in 33.83.

In 1-meter diving, the Cadets swept the competition with freshman Sarah Carls  claiming first on the women's side with a score of 218.75 points and sophomore Conor Mahnke (Livonia, N.Y.) taking first in men's action with a score of 230.25 points. Both Carls and Mahnke earned All-Conference honors.

Sophomore Cameron Ferreira (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) took third place in the 200 yard IM in 2:07.49. Senior Dylan Henderson (Commerce Township, Mich.) claimed second in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.86 while junior Alex DiGiacomo (Norfolk, Mass.) took second in the 100 yard butterfly in 55.40. DiGiacomo also claimed third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.52 while Henderson went on to finish second in the 50 yard breaststroke in 29.78.

The team of Clark, Ferreira, DiGiacomo and Henderson finished second in the 400 yard medley relay, posting a time of 3:51.10.

The meet will conclude Sunday evening.
