BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Norwich University men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams closed the 2019 portion of their season at the Bridgewater State Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Norwich men placed second with 655.5 points while the NU women also took second, scoring 370 points.
Freshman Nikki Ansley (Berlin, Germany) claimed second in the women’s 50 yard butterfly in a time of 27.94 and won the women’s 100 yard IM in 1:04.88. Senior Alex DiGiacomo (Norfolk, Mass.) took second in the men’s 50 fly in 25.39. DiGiacomo also finished in second in the men’s 50 yard freestyle in 22.79 and won the men’s 100 yard freestyle in 50.43.
Sophomore Megan Duffy (Shelton, Conn.) won the women’s 400 yard IM with a time of 4:54.26 while junior Cameron Ferriera (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) claimed first in the men’s event in 4:37.27. Ferreira also won the men’s 200 yard breaststroke in 2:25.15. Duffy went on to take first in the women’s 200 yard butterfly in 2:20.40 and the women’s 200 yard IM with a time of 2:19.03. Junior Joseph Clark (Acworth, Ga.) finished in second in the men’s 100 yard backstroke in 59.60 and won the men’s 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.89. He also finished second in the men’s 500 yard freestyle event in 5:10.71.
Sophomore Sarah Carls (Niagara Falls, NY) won the women’s 1-meter diving competition with a final score of 204.70, while freshman Jack Brennan (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the men’s 1-meter diving event with a score of 209.85. Carls also won the women’s 3-meter diving contest with a score of 183.15 while Brennan claimed the men’s 3-meter crown with a score of 163.40. Senior Harrison Brock (Alexandria, Va.) claimed second in the men’s 100 yard IM with a time of 59.86, while freshman Therese Whalen (Berryville, Va.)finished in second in the women’s 500 yard freestyle in 5:52.98.
Freshman Derek Furtado (Plymouth, Mass.) won the men’s 100 yard butterfly in 57.24 with sophomore Olivia Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.) taking second in the women’s 50 yard backstroke in 32.09. Freshman Hunter Sherry (Boone, Iowa) claimed second in the men’s 50 yard backstroke with a time of 27.91.
This event concluded the 2019 calendar year for the Cadets, who are back in the pool on Monday, January 6th for a dual meet at Saint Michael’s College. That meet is slated for 5:00 p.m.
