NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's and women's swimming & diving teams hosted SUNY Potsdam in a dual meet on Saturday afternoon at Goodyear Pool.
The NU men topped the Bears 181-112 while the Cadet women dropped a close 145-140 decision.
The team of junior Joseph Clark (Acworth, Ga.), sophomore Michael Kuehne (Auburn, Mich.) senior Alex DiGiacomo (Norfolk, Mass.) and senior Harrison Brock (Alexandria, Va.) won the men's 200 yard medley relay. Clark went on to win the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.80 and the 200 yard backstroke in 2:09.42. DiGiacomo would later win the men's 50 yard freestyle in 22.39 and the 100 yard butterfly in 55.34.
Freshman Tess Whalen (Berryville, Va.) won the women's 1,000 yard freestyle in 12:01.04.
Freshman Nikky Ansley (Berlin, Germany) continued her red-hot start to the season with a win in the women's 200 yard freestyle in 2:03.28 while junior Sam Carlson (Dedham, Maine) won the 200 yard men's freestyle in 1:53.85. Ansley went on to win the women's 50 yard freestyle in 25.24 and the women's 100 yard freestyle in 55.51. Carlson also took first in the men's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:17.30.
Sophomore Megan Duffy (Shelton, Conn.) took first in the women's 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.75 with sophomore Gordon Suwirjo (Derry, N.H.) claiming first in the men's race in 2:10.74. Duffy would later win the women's 500 yard freestyle in 5:29.58 as well as the 200 yard IM in 2:19.71.
Norwich swept the 1-meter diving portion of the competition with sophomore Sarah Carls winning the women's event with a score of 178.05 and freshman Jack Brennan (Hopkinton, Mass.) claiming first on the men's side with a final score of 198.36.
Junior Cameron Ferreira (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) won the men's 200 yard IM with a time of 2:05.81. The team of sophomore Olivia Kelliher (Weymouth, Mass.), freshman Alexis Magee ,Ansley and Duffy won the women's 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:48.39. Brock, senior Will Micali (Brentwood, N.H.), fellow senior Gerard Whalen (Berryville, Md.) and DiGiacomo took first on the men's side of the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:33.64.
The Cadets are back in the pool on Saturday, November 9th for a home meet against Babson College and Regis (Mass.) at 1:00 p.m.
