NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Colby-Sawyer College Thursday afternoon in a non-league match at Shapiro Field House. The visiting Chargers swept the three doubles sets, and then captured three of the six singles points en route to the victory.
With the win, Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-3 during the spring. Norwich, meanwhile, falls to 0-3 on the young season.
Peter Hooper continued his dominance in singles play as the Cadets' No. 1 player swept aside Hart Callahan, 6-4, 6-4. The senior from Spartanburg, S.C., remains undefeated in singles action since arriving at Norwich prior to last season.
Matt Sanford outlasted Robert Barnes, 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 (13-11) at No. 3 singles, and Graham Oliveira defeated Eric Caples, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 6 singles to round out NU's scoring on the day.
Norwich returns to Shapiro Field House on Saturday, March 28, when the Cadets host Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales. First serve for the conference match is set for 1 p.m.
