NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team saw its modest three-game win streak snapped on Wednesday afternoon as the Cadets dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to in-state rival Castleton State College at Shapiro Field House.
The Spartans (7-0) won two of the three doubles sets, and then split the six singles points to pick up the victory.
Norwich (3-4) picked up a victory at No. 1 doubles as the Cadets' tandem of Peter Hooper and Travis Tyler easily defeated Robbie Gray and Sam Levine, 8-1. The Spartans won the other two doubles matches, though, to enter singles play with a 2-1 edge.
Hooper, who has not lost a singles match since arriving at Norwich prior to the beginning of last season, kept his perfect record intact with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Gray at first singles.
Collin Hyte defeated C.J. Sullivan, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while Graham Oliveira snuck past Ted Panasci, 6-7, 6-4, 10-4 (super tiebreak), at sixth singles.
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, April 11, when the Cadets travel to Boston, Mass., to battle GNAC rival Emerson. First serve for the conference match is slated for 2 p.m.
