NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's tennis won its sixth match in its last seven with a decisive 8-1 victory over Green Mountain College on Wednesday inside Shapiro Field House.
Norwich (6-3, 0-1 GNAC) got back on track after suffering a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Suffolk this past Saturday in its GNAC opener.
Hyte won first singles 6-1, 6-1 over Truman Cressey and then teamed with Ackerman to squeak out a 9-8 (7-5 tiebreaker) win over Cressey and Kei Sako in the top doubles match.
Hyte improved to 8-1 on the year in singles matches, while Ackerman and him improved to 6-3 on the season. Ackerman downed Sako 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to improve to 8-2 in solo matches.
Carter swept No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets to beat Eric Wade. He teamed with Tyler Eagan (Verona, N.J.) to take No. 2 doubles and improve to 8-1 on the year. Eagan defeated Pierce Caldwell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles as well.
Javier Lugris won No. 5 singles for Green Mountain College 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 over Beiter for the Eagles' lone victory.
Norwich closes out the regular season on Saturday by hosting Johnson & Wales at 1 p.m. in GNAC action. The Cadets need to beat the Wildcats in order to make the GNAC postseason. It will also serve as NU's senior day with Hyte, Eagan and Carter playing their final matches of the regular season.
