Men's Tennis: Cadets stretch winning streak to three straight with 8-1 win over Pitt.-Greensburg

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Norwich University men's tennis team stretched its winning streak to three straight games with an 8-1 win over Pitt.-Greensburg on Sunday afternoon.

Norwich (3-2) improved to 2-0 on its spring break trip and is now 2-for-2 so far in its grueling six matches in seven days stretch.

The Cadets swept all three doubles matches and then took five of six singles matches to roll to the victory.

Sophomore Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) led Norwich with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles and then he teamed with senior Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) to take No. 1 doubles 8-3.

Beiter took No. 3 singles 6-1, 7-5 to go 2-0 on the day as well. Sophomore Noah Stillman (Danbury, Conn.) took No. 4 singles 6-4, 3-6, 10-7Stillman teamed with junior Dylan Ackerman (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands) to take No. 2 doubles 8-4. 

Junior Tim Birnbaum (Mahwah, N.J.) and sophomore Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) continued their recent roll in the No. 5 and No. 6 positions with 6-2, 7-6 and 6-0, 6-0 victories respectively. They also teamed to take No. 3 doubles 8-3. 

Norwich will look to stretch its winning streak to four in a row when it travels to St. Vincent for a 12:30 p.m. start on Monday afternoon.
