Men's Tennis: St. Vincent snaps Norwich's winning streak, 8-1

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Norwich University men's tennis team had its three-game winning streak abruptly snapped in a 8-1 loss to St. Vincent on Monday afternoon.

Norwich (3-3) dropped its first game of its spring break trip in its third game in as many days. Sophomore Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) was the lone winner on the day for the Cadets at No. 2 singles. Gilmore improved to 4-2 on the season in solo action with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 pro-set victory over Ryan Hartz.

The Cadets fought hard in doubles action, but they were unable to take any points. Dylan Ackerman (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands) and Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) teamed up for an 8-5 loss at No. 2 doubles to Zach Fox and Alex DeLuca. Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) and Timothy Birnbaum (Mahwah, N.J.) took a tough loss at No. 3 doubles, falling 8-7 to Josh Boland and Riley Maruca. 

Ackerman fought hard at No. 1 singles, but ultimately fell 6-3, 7-5 to Mauricio Sanchez. 

St. Vincent improved to 3-1 on the year. 

Norwich is off tomorrow before returning to action on Wednesday vs. Muskingum at 12:30 p.m.
