WINTHROP, Mass. – The Norwich University men's tennis team swept the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opening weekly awards on Monday afternoon.
Gilmore picked up right where he left off after being named to the GNAC All-Conference Second Team last year with a solid 4-1 start at No. 2 singles for the Cadets. He had a large part in Norwich's three-game winning streak heading into Monday's match vs. St. Vincent. Gilmore dropped just seven games in his solo matches during that win streak.
Gilmore also posted a 2-2 record at No. 1 doubles with Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) during the Week 1 award period.
Santy started off his collegiate career with a 1-1 record at No. 5 singles and 1-1 record at No. 2/3 doubles. Santy picked up his first collegiate victory with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Castleton's Spencer Butter. He also teamed with Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) to take No. 3 doubles 8-1.
Norwich is off to a 3-3 start in the 2018-19 season and in the midst of its six games in seven days spring break trip through Pennsylvania and Ohio.
The Cadets face Muskingum at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday for their fourth match of the trip.
