Men's Tennis: Norwich sweeps NVU-Lyndon, 9-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University tennis team swept Northern Vermont University at Lyndon 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Shapiro Field House.

Norwich (7-7) dropped just nine games in total in the entire match en route to the dominant win.

Junior Dylan Ackerman (Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands) went 2-0 on the day to lead the Cadets to the victory. Sam Beiter (Youngstown, N.Y.) and Timothy Santy (San Antonio, Texas) also won both of their matches for Norwich.

Sophomore Sarah Henderson (Lyndonville, Vt.) scored her first collegiate victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over Jacob Nelson.

Sophomore Abbie Barker (Warren, Vt.) also won at No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-1 over Abukar Hassan. 

Ackerman won No. 1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-2 over Patrick Wickstrom. Alexi Gilmore (Haverhill, Mass.) took No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0 over Neal Mulligan to improve to 9-5 on the season.

Beiter took No. 3 singles with a win by retirement over Kyle Leighton. Santy won No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1.

Ackerman and Timothy Birnbaum (Mahwah, N.J) won No. 1 doubles 8-3 over Mulligan and Wickstrom. Santy and Noah Stillman (Danbury, Conn.) took No. 2 doubles 8-0 over Leighton and Zach Falkenburg. 

Beiter and Israel Lira (Los Banos, Calif.) won No. 3 doubles 8-0.  

Norwich will take on NVU-Johnson on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in Shapiro Field House.
