WINTHROP, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Rachel Johnson (Stockbridge, Vt.) of the Norwich University softball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Johnson struck out an impressive 50 batters in 30.1 innings pitched for the Cadets, including giving up just nine hits and two earned runs over the final 25.2 innings pitched. She compiled a 2.31 earned run average for the week. She has an 11.54 strikeouts per innings pitch mark. Her strikeout total is double or more than every other pitcher in the GNAC.
Johnson ranks 13th in all of NCAA Division III in strikeouts per seven innings.
Norwich went 0-8 in Florida but the Cadets return back to the Northeast to host Castleton on Wednesday, March 29 at 3 p.m.
