Softball: Norwich falls twice to No. 12-ranked Randolph Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - The Norwich University softball team opened the 2018 season by dropping a doubleheader to perennial powerhouse Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.

The No. 12-nationally ranked Yellowjackets defeated Norwich 8-0 and 10-0 in five-inning games each time.

Norwich (0-2, 0-0 GNAC) got a walk from junior Naomi Rinaldo (Middlefield, Conn.) for its lone base runner of the day.

Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) started Game 1 on the mound, surrendering seven hits and six earned runs. Freshman Jenna Sprague (Brookfield, Vt.) made her collegiate debut as well in the game.

In Game 2, senior Sarah Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) gave up seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks in 3.1 innings pitched. Sprague and Oliver also pitched in the game.

Norwich returns to New England and is scheduled to play two road GNAC doubleheaders vs. St. Joseph (Conn.) and Emmanuel on March 24 and 25.
