Softball: Suffolk sweeps Norwich in GNAC DH

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University softball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader to Suffolk University on Sunday at Sabine Field. 

Norwich (5-7, 3-5 GNAC) lost for the first time in 2018 at home, dropping Game 1 9-0 to the Rams and then falling 9-5 in Game 2. 

Sophomore Makenna Wade (Pensacola, Fla.) went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, including a solo home run to lead the Cadets' offense in the nightcap. Freshman Lexis Gayac (Nashua, N.H.) and Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) each had two hits as well for Norwich. 

Oliver scored twice, while Katie Reid (Gold Canyon, Ariz.) and Felicia Armell (North Ferrisburgh, Vt.) each had a hit as well. Freshman Madelyn Folcik (Wilmot, N.H.) had a RBI as well. 

Senior Sarah Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) took the loss on the mound in the nightcap. 

In Game 1, Norwich only managed two hits with Naomi Rinaldo (Middlefield, Conn.) and Olivia Bussiere (Northfield, Vt.) each notching one. 

Taylor Holmes fired a complete-game two-hitter with seven strikeouts in five innings. Sydney Littlefield had four RBIs to lead the Rams' offense in the opener. 

The game was scoreless through three innings before Suffolk opened the game wide open with seven runs in the fourth.

The Cadets return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Boston to face Simmons College in a doubleheader on the road.
