WINTHROP, Mass. - Freshman forward Mary Casamassa (Wexford, Pa.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week for the second time this year, the conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Casamassa started her week off with a bang, setting a new career-high with 26 points against Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Tuesday evening. She shot 64.7% (11-17) from the field, along with six rebounds and a pair of assists and steals in Norwich's 63-50 victory. She followed that up with seven rebounds and seven points against Castleton on Saturday afternoon.
The Pennsylvania native leads the team with 14.0 points per game, along with averaging 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 steals on 32.6 minutes per game. She currently sits in the top-20 in the GNAC in minutes, minutes per game, field goals, free throws, free throw percentage, rebounds, rebounds per game, assist to turnover ratio, total blocks, total points, and points per game.
She's joined on this week's GNAC Report by senior Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.) who averaged a double-double of 10.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game over last week's games on her way to a spot on the weekly Honor Roll.
Fleury, Casamassa, and the rest of the Cadets will wrap up their 2018 schedule on Tuesday afternoon against Northern Vermont-Johnson at 5:00 PM before taking a long winter break, returning to action in early January.
