Women's Basketball: Norwich drops back and forth battle with JWU, 61-56

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University women's basketball team fell on the road on Tuesday night, dropping their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University by a 61-56 final score.

The Cadets started the game on a 7-0 run, but the lead quickly evaporated as the Wildcats responded with an 8-2 run of their own. This proved characteristic of the entire matchup, as neither team could get a definitive edge through nearly four quarters. Norwich held a slim 54-52 lead with three minutes left after an Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) hit a three-pointer to give the maroon and gold the lead. The Wildcats responded quickly with back-to-back threes of their own to give themselves the lead they needed to coast to the 61-56 victory.

Emily Oliver coninued to lead Norwich with a 17 point, five rebound, four assist effort. Classmate Vanessa Fleury (Lebanon, N.H.) put up 15 points on 70% shooting from the field, along with five rebounds and a steal.

The loss drops the Cadets down to 5-7 overall this year and an 0-1 mark in GNAC play. They'll try to right the ship on Thursday afternoon when they host Simmons University at 5:30 PM for another GNAC showdown.
